The New Cisco CCNA Exam – A Quick Overview

Quite a bit of revamping has been happening within the realm of Cisco certifications. A major update discussed in this article involves one of the most sought after certifications in the IT industry – the Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA).

This certification is important for the advancement of a career in IT. The CCNA stands out for its global recognition and with helping to provide validation on your knowledge of the basics in networking.

A massive overhaul has taken place on the CCNA in the past year. Yes! You only sit for one exam to achieve the CCNA. A stark contrast from sitting for multiple exams in the past.

The new CCNA will replace the following certifications:

  • CCNA Cloud
  • CCNA Collaboration
  • CCNA Data Center
  • CCDA
  • CCNA Industrial
  • CCNA Routing and Switching
  • CCNA Security
  • CCNA Service Provider
  • CCNA Wireless

As a result, the certification pathway looks a whole lot different as well. In the past, if you were accredited for CCNA Security, the certification pathway would lead to a CCNP Security as well. In contrast, with the CCNA now covering all bases now, you can now choose to specialise in any of the routes at CCNP level. Furthermore, the new CCNP also no longer places a CCNA as a pre-requisite, although having one could definitely help with the process.

Here are the CCNP routes:

  • CCNP Enterprise
  • CCNP Security
  • CCNP Service Provider
  • CCNP Collaboration
  • CCNP Data Center
  • Cisco Certified DevNet Professional
